A young man of about 25-years was stabbed to death with a broken bottle in the throat at James Town in Accra during the climax of this year’s “Chale Wote” Festival on Saturday, August 25, 2018.
The bizarre incident occurred on Sunday dawn, at about 3 am, while the celebration was getting to the end.
Narrating the bizarre incident, an eyewitness, Kwasi Annor explained that, in the course of the celebration around the Ghana Post Office Headquarters, dozens of youth, who were mainly males, were seen pursuing the young man who is yet to be identified.
The witness said they were able to arrest him and started beating him up, with accusations that, he attempted to steal a mobile phone.
Kwasi Annor said, in the course of the beatings, one of them dragged a bottle from a nearby drinking spot, broke the bottle on the floor, and stabbed the suspect in the throat, killing him instantly.
He added that other onlookers quickly call personnel from the Ghana Ambulance Service who had been stationed in the vicinity to monitor any eventuality, to come to the scene.
Kwasi Annor explained that the victim was whisked away to a nearby health center.
