Police in the Eastern Region are on high alert following increasing tension in Akyem Apapam in the Abuakwa South constituency, where the traditional authorities have vowed to use all means at their disposal to stop the installation of a new parallel chief by Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
The traditional authorities say they have information that suggest that some persons from the Okyihene’s palace plan to install a new chief today (Monday), without the blessing of kingmakers of Apapam even as the town has had a chief for the past three years.
However the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has disclosed that those intending to install the new chief even though informed the police about their plan, but since they failed to meet the requirement of the Public Order Act, hence they’ve been advised not to go ahead with the installation.
According to him, upon Police assessment it is not conducive for the ceremony to come off, adding that if the persons planning to install the chief should breach the peace in the area, they will be held responsible.
